EDMONTON –

Fuel costs are set to rise in Alberta subsequent month, with the provincial authorities absolutely reinstating its gas tax following a drop in oil costs.

Finance Minister Nate Horner says the gas tax for fuel and diesel can be 13 cents per litre beginning April 1, a rise of 4 cents.

Below the provincial Gasoline Tax Reduction Program, the tax may be paused or reinstated partially or in full, relying on oil costs.

Gasoline tax charges are adjusted quarterly primarily based on the typical value per barrel of the benchmark West Texas Intermediate oil.

Horner says Albertans will proceed to pay a number of the lowest gas costs within the nation even after the elevated price takes impact.

He says the tax price will drop again down if oil costs hit US$80 a barrel or greater.

This report by The Canadian Press was first revealed March 21, 2024.
