Within the polls that occurred after a hiatus of 4 years, Dhananjay from the All India College students’ Affiliation (AISA) gained the JNUSU president’s submit by securing 2,598 votes towards the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad’s (ABVP) Umesh C Ajmeera who secured 1,676 votes.
Dhananjay hails from Gaya, Bihar, and is the primary Dalit president from the Left after Batti Lal Bairwa, who was elected in 1996-97.
Talking to PTI after the win, Dhananjay mentioned, “This victory is a referendum by the scholars of JNU that they reject the politics of hate and violence. The scholars have as soon as once more proven their belief in us. We are going to proceed to combat for his or her rights and work on points that concern college students.
“The protection of girls on campus, fund cuts, scholarship hike, infrastructural and water disaster are among the many prime priorities of the scholars union to start with,” he added.
Amid cries of ‘Lal Salaam’ and ‘Jai Bhim’, the profitable college students had been hailed by their supporters. Crimson, white and blue flags had been waved by the scholars to rejoice the victory of the candidates.
Avijit Ghosh from the College students’ Federation of India (SFI) trounced ABVP’s Deepika Sharma by 927 votes to win the vice-president’s submit. Ghosh acquired 2,409 votes as towards 1,482 votes by Sharma.
Birsa Ambedkar Phule College students’ Affiliation (BAPSA) candidate Priyanshi Arya, who was supported by the Left, gained the overall secretary submit’s by defeating ABVP’s Arjun Anand by 926 votes. Arya polled in 2,887 votes whereas Anand acquired 1961 votes.
The United Left prolonged its help to Arya after the Election Committee cancelled the nomination of its candidate Swati Singh when her candidacy was challenged by the ABVP.
